I am a clerk in Majlis Perbandaran Sepang. Since working in Corporates department, I’ve been enjoying myself involving with events and ceremony. Back in December 2018, I had a task assigned by my boss to hold a pre-launch ceremony of promoting "Visit Sepang 2020". The instruction was to hold the event at the departure area in KLIA and the main purposed was to create the awareness about ‘Visit Sepang 2020’ to all the tourists; local and international.
That’s where I started to build up my confident level and also my communication skill. I was still new in Corporates department and yet I have to deal with corporate people from established stakeholders such as Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), Segi Astana Sdn. Bhd, Sepang International Circuit (SIC), Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) and many more. I had meeting session with foreign directors and top management of Mitsui & Co., and also communicating with leaders of Tourism Selangor and Tourism Malaysia.
It wasn’t easy for me because of my title as ‘Pembantu Tadbir’ or a clerk where this task should be performed by our top officers. To make it even more challenging, I went to see them all in person, ALONE. I took the challenge not just to prove myself that I can do things beyond my job scope but also to break the sceptical of government servants who barely can communicate well in English.
Alhamdulillah… everything went well and this valuable experience has taught me to be a better me and also helped to expand my network in the corporate world.
Remember I told you? I am no ordinary government servant. *wink*
